Buds and weed in Chennai, India - my impression

Hello dear rasta audience🤝Want to tell my story about adventures with weed in Chennai, with some stories of local inhabitant.

You are probably aware that marijuana laws are different in different places. This article should shed light on cannabis regulations in Chennai, what do local people and cops think about weed, hash availability, pricing, my own experience etc.

I have just finished my trip to Chennai, stayed there for 10 days, now got back home, writing this post while memory is fresh and with a solid joint in my left hand. As a regular weed smoker I could not imagine my stay in Chennai without having some weed in my pocket. Below I will outline information I found out while looking for some good smelly green buds in Chennai.

Weed turnaround rules in Chennai, India

Everybody knows that cannabis with low THC and high CBD is widely used for the treatment, you need only the doctor's prescription. But the realization and keeping of non-medical cannabis is highly controlled by the government of India. For you it means that you can't obtain high-level weed in the store, like in Canada.

When I'm traveling, I'm always trying to make new friends. This time I did it on my first evening in Chennai, I met Alex. He relocated to Chennai two years ago. As I'm a lucky man - Alex was a good rasta guy and loved weed as much as I am. He shared a joint with me and some points about the local dealers. For the beginning he calmed me down by saying that despite the fact that cannabis is strictly controlled by law and prohibited in Chennai - police are not so straight at this.

What are the consequences of being caught with marijuana in Chennai ?

In reality, as Alex pointed out, if you're over 18 and possess fewer than 20 grams of cannabis or 10 grams of hashish and refrain from public consumption, you shouldn't anticipate any legal trouble. At most, law enforcement may seize your belongings once they confirm you're not involved in distribution.

Typically, law enforcement officers do not interfere with foreign tourists who are enjoying their vacation or conducting business trips in Chennai and contributing to the economy of India.

Attitude of Chennai locals to weed

You already know that good non-medical marijuana with high % THC is not something you can officially buy in a branded cannabis shop in Chennai, but this does not mean locals are too much against weed 😃. Youngsters and students are definitely those who share their love of cannabis and welcome new smokers in their circles. They can not imagine a good party without having a joint or two, while it’s hard to join them if you are already a “25+ old man”.

In general smoking some occasional joint after a long working week is a pleasant tradition among many people in Chennai, so no one will point fingers at you seeing how you are smoking weed, but better to avoid doing this publicly just not to bring useless attention.

We were a little drunk already when Alex offered a joint of some noname sativa strain, of course I agreed. We were smoking not far from my hotel and it seems I saw other guys doing the same near another cornet 🙂So may say locals are not against weed, I saw this myself.

I liked the weed Alex shared, not the best one I’ve ever tried, but good enough. So I asked Alex to share contacts of his dealer, while he refused telling me his dealer works only with an old trusted set of clients. So I simply asked Alex if he could be my dealer during the nearest days - he agreed. I wish everyone to find his own Alex in Chennai🙂

Where can one acquire cannabis in Chennai?

Although I personally didn't face any issues with obtaining cannabis in Chennai thanks to Alex, he did enlighten me about the process (and not just related to cannabis).

Typically, higher-level dealers procure their inventory from wholesale darknet websites. In theory, you could navigate the complexities of using darknet platforms to have your order delivered in a matter of days or even weeks. The website thehiddenwiki.com provides all the necessary links to make purchases in the darknet using the Tor browser and cryptocurrencies. However, this method is generally more suitable for those seeking larger quantities and have the luxury of time (several days) for delivery.

If you are just having a short vacation or a trip to Chennai - purchasing weed via wholesale darknet websites is not an option. Looking for dealers on the streets and in parks is still something you may do to find some weed in Chennai, but more and more dealers are shifting to online orders done via messengers and payments in bitcoins instead of cash. This simply protects them from ever being caught by cops. Crypto payments are anonymous and delivery is done to selected location without any personal meetings, so both you and the dealer are secured from any possible consequences.

This was a surprise for me cause I am more old school and just “heard something about crypto”. While now all youngsters (who are usually a target group for cannabis dealers) have crypto wallets so dealers simply follow the trend. I think dealers are losing money anyway because not all clients know crypto, but Alex commented that nowadays if you do not use crypto - you 100% have a friend who uses it, so you may just send him money from card and he does crypto transaction for you. After that I remembered I also have such a friend, so I agreed with Alex.

Can I smoke cannabis on the streets in Chennai ?

In some places, smoking marijuana in public, on the streets, or in parks may be illegal and subject to administrative sanctions. My advice is to try to avoid smoking marijuana in public places.

What will happen if I get caught with cannabis in Chennai ?

Usually, law enforcement tends to be lenient with tourists, and if they don't suspect you of dealing, they will most likely let you go.

Can you recommend a place to buy weed in Chennai ?

As I mentioned before, I was fortunate to meet Alex. If I were you, I would look for Telegram channels and avoid interacting with street dealers.

What quality of weed or hash can I find in Chennai?

There are a lot of weed and hash variants in Chennai. What you get depends on the amount of money you can afford to pay.

What about the hash in Chennai. Can I find it?

Yep, hash is also popular in Chennai. So almost all dealers can propose it to you.

What the price for weed and hash in Chennai?

As I said, the quality needs to be paid. And the price can differ from provider to provider. From the words of Alex - top level weed can cost near $20 - $25 for 1g and for good hash you can pay $30 - $35 for 1g.

Interesting facts about weed

1 - You Can Eat Cannabis Raw
Granted, it tastes a lot better when prepared with yummy edibles like brownies, bread, or cake. But cannabis can be consumed raw. One more thing is that if you eat it raw, it won’t get you high, but it will provide you with all the medicinal benefits.

2 - Modern-Day Cannabis Is A Lot Stronger
We talked about this on the cannabis flower and its influence in the 60s. For one, it’s purer than the illegal “hippie weed” that was imported into the United States. And it’s also been cultivated to increase its THC content, so the high you get from marijuana today is a lot stronger than what your parents or grandparents consumed.

3 - California Banned First
A century ago, California was the first state in the United States to ban cannabis. This is a bit ironic when we look at the fun fact above. But it looks like Cali learned its lesson!

4 - Cannabis Has Medicinal Benefits
Including being a natural analgesic. If you want to learn more, we have a full course on medical cannabis applications you can take!

5 - Weed Is Beer’s Cousin!
Beer hops are in the same family of flowering plants as cannabis. We thought the plants looked similar… and now we know why.
