Weed in Jalal-Abad, Kyrgyzstan: my experience

Hi, smokers! You probably know that cannabis laws and regulations vary from one county to another, so let’s go deeper and try to understand what is going on with weed in Jalal-Abad. My post covers information about weed laws, regulations, general attitude of locals and cops, hash VS weed availability and pricing, failures and success in finding weed in Jalal-Abad.

I have just finished my trip to Jalal-Abad, stayed there for 10 days, now got back home, writing this post while memory is fresh and with a solid joint in my left hand. As a regular weed smoker I could not imagine my stay in Jalal-Abad without having some weed in my pocket. Below I will outline information I found out while looking for some good smelly green buds in Jalal-Abad.

So where do smokers purchase weed in Jalal-Abad?

Despite the fact that I did not have any problems with weed in Jalal-Abad because of Joe, he told me how everything works (and not only with cannabis).

Usually high-level dealers purchase stuff on wholesale darknet websites. Theoretically you may also go through all the nightmare of using darknet websites to get your stuff delivered in several days or even weeks. Website thehiddenwiki.com has all the links you may need to order stuff in the darknet using Tor browser and crypto, but this method usually works if you need a lot of stuff and have time (several days) to wait for the delivery.

If you're on a short vacation or a trip to Jalal-Abad, obtaining cannabis through wholesale darknet websites isn't a viable option. Searching for street or park dealers remains a possibility for acquiring weed in Jalal-Abad, but an increasing number of dealers are transitioning to online transactions through messaging apps and Bitcoin payments instead of cash. This approach serves as a protective measure against potential encounters with law enforcement. Crypto payments offer anonymity, and deliveries are made to specified locations without the need for in-person meetings, ensuring both you and the dealer are shielded from potential consequences.

This revelation surprised me, as I lean toward a more traditional approach and had only heard about cryptocurrencies in passing. However, these days, most young individuals, who are often the target audience for cannabis dealers, possess crypto wallets, so dealers are simply adapting to this trend. While I believe that some dealers might lose business because not all clients are familiar with cryptocurrencies, Joe pointed out that nowadays, if you don't use crypto yourself, you likely have a friend who does. In such cases, you can simply transfer money from your card to your crypto-savvy friend, and they can conduct the cryptocurrency transaction on your behalf. This advice from Joe got me thinking, and I realized I also have such a friend, so I followed his suggestion.

Attitude of Jalal-Abad locals to weed

You already know that good non-medical marijuana with high % THC is not something you can officially buy in a branded cannabis shop in Jalal-Abad, but this does not mean locals are too much against weed 😃. Youngsters and students are definitely those who share their love of cannabis and welcome new smokers in their circles. They can not imagine a good party without having a joint or two, while it’s hard to join them if you are already a “25+ old man”.

In general smoking some occasional joint after a long working week is a pleasant tradition among many people in Jalal-Abad, so no one will point fingers at you seeing how you are smoking weed, but better to avoid doing this publicly just not to bring useless attention.

We were a little drunk already when Joe offered a joint of some noname sativa strain, of course I agreed. We were smoking not far from my hotel and it seems I saw other guys doing the same near another cornet 🙂So may say locals are not against weed, I saw this myself.

I liked the weed Joe shared, not the best one I’ve ever tried, but good enough. So I asked Joe to share contacts of his dealer, while he refused telling me his dealer works only with an old trusted set of clients. So I simply asked Joe if he could be my dealer during the nearest days - he agreed. I wish everyone to find his own Joe in Jalal-Abad🙂

Cannabis regulations in Jalal-Abad, Kyrgyzstan

It's crucial to emphasize that cannabis, marijuana, and hashish are strictly prohibited in Jalal-Abad. You won't find coffee shops selling high-THC marijuana strains here. While medical CBD cannabis might be accessible through licensed dispensaries, it necessitates a doctor's prescription, and it's essential to note that CBD doesn't produce psychoactive effects.

While at a club, I had the opportunity to meet Joe, who relocated to Jalal-Abad three years ago and is well-versed in the local drug culture. According to Joe, despite the legal prohibition of cannabis, law enforcement officers generally adopt a lenient attitude towards marijuana, with some even being cannabis enthusiasts themselves.

But what if you get caught with weed in your pocket in Jalal-Abad?

According to Joe - if you have not more than 10g of weed or 5g of hash and you are not doing any other bad things in public - cops should not punish you. They should just ensure you are not a dealer who sells stuff, and after a short talk should leave you alone and just confiscate your stuff (to smoke it themselves haha).

There are some stories about dirty cops who try to get a bribe from tourists with weed in Jalal-Abad, but these stories are rare, also better not to do this cause you may be arrested for this as a separate crime. Easier just to watch you back and not to walk with large amounts of weed in your pockets.
